Career Development: Old National Bank Summer Internship Opportunities

Old National Bank’s Summer Internship Program designs meaningful work for students to enter a professional financial services environment over a 10-week program.

Interns are welcomed into a line of business to work alongside team members with possible focuses in Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, Community Banking, Wealth Management, Investments, Risk Management, Operations, Marketing, Communications/Social Media, Accounting, HR, IT, or other lines of business.

Program Highlights

During the 2024 summer internship program, all interns across the footprint were welcomed to Indy for the first-ever Intern Connect event that featured community service, time to connect socially, various speakers, and a session on Clifton Strengths.

“The intern connect was one of a kind and a tremendous opportunity to network with interns from other locations,” said Wealth Management, Community Development and Marketing intern Mary Margaret Mellen. “Being at this two-day event made me realize how intentional Old National was in creating this class of interns as the company’s culture reflected through this group of interns.”

Old National’s internship program features a variety of highlights to deepen engagement and impact during the 10 weeks. Other highlights include both technical training and professional development opportunities to build skillsets and further develop as young professionals. An additional highlight of the internship program is interns’ early and ongoing opportunities to network with executives, employees and fellow interns.

“The leaders of the internship program went out of their way to schedule weekly programming with executives which provided consistent and scheduled opportunities to ask questions on a weekly basis,” said Wealth Management intern Arjun Taneja.

“I got to ask Jim Ryan, Chairman and CEO, a question on our first weekly call; it shows that Jim, and by extension the company, understands the value of young professionals and the ability to build them into future leaders.”

Lastly, all interns receive mentors and work with interns to present a team-based final project to peers and leaders.

Development Opportunities

The following lists out key elements of the intern program that support developmental opportunities for all interns:

  • Critical thinking through analysis and decision-making
  • Strengthening oral and written communication
  • Reinforcing teamwork and collaboration with diverse teams
  • Building professionalism and work ethic through effective habits and time management

Development is achieved through assignments, projects, events, mentorship and often, relations with team members. For many, the opportunity to connect with team members allowed for personal learning through people’s stories and experiences.

“Old National really has an open-door policy, you can send an email or meet with anybody. It creates a welcoming feeling from the beginning of the program that lasts through the 10 weeks,” said Data Science intern Mariam Kenu.

“On the first day my manager gave me a list of names for people to reach out to,” said Taneja. The opportunity to have those conversations in a supportive environment was crucial and unique in a culture where all team members want to uplift others, teach us and share their experiences.”

Recruiting

Recruiting for the internship program occurs between September and October with interviews in November and December.

The Summer Internship Program runs from mid-June to mid-August.
